What is Live TAPS and why should you want this?

Live TAPS means having a trained professional musician actually perform TAPS on a Bugle or Trumpet. When a qualified musician plays TAPS Live it will not only sound better than the Ceremonial Bugle but more importantly, it is real and genuine. It will have the delicate nuances that only a human being can produce. It will be played technically correct but also with feeling and a soulful sound that will covey the dignity, honor and love that every Veteran deserves.

What is the Ceremonial Bugle and why should this be avoided?

“The National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) for fiscal year 2000 directed the playing of Taps at veteran's military funerals. Although a live bugler is preferred, a quality-recorded version may be used. To address the issue and provide a more dignified alternative to a compact disk (CD) player, DoD turned to technology resulting in the development of the Ceremonial Bugle. An electronic device fits directly inside the bell portion of a bugle and contains a recording of Taps as performed during an actual ceremony at Arlington National Cemetery. The participating Service member holds the bugle normally while the recording plays presenting an image not unlike an actual bugler performing Taps.”

The Ceremonial Bugle is prone to failure either from the batteries going dead or other electronic malfunction that can result in the playing of TAPS suddenly stopping midway through or not even starting in the first place.

Even if it does work properly it's still just a recording.

You don't have to settle for a recording!

Tell your funeral director that you want Live TAPS.
